Over the years, The Moorish Science Temple of America has become a victim to negative News coverage due to false claims of individuals being active members or in some sort of association with our organization. Over the years, we have seen countless claim of so-called Moorish Sovereignty, Moorish Federation, Moorish Indigenous person and Moorish Republic; the list continues to grow each year with many bogus claims of association with The Moorish Science Temple of America. We have seated ourselves as vanguards defending against bogus claims, unrighteous acts and sheer lawlessness of those who continue to set themselves as a threat to our peaceful way of living.
National Leader Shaykh Ra Saadi El continues to be vocal in defending The Moorish Science Temple of America-1928 along with its True and Faithful followers. Shaykh Ra Saadi El is the most sought after Moorish American figure who gives clarity and understanding to the News media about the true tenets of The Moorish Science Temple and those claiming to be members.

Anti-Government Sovereign Citizens Taking Foreclosed Homes Using Phony Deeds, Authorities Say
It's an interesting trend, Potok said, because the sovereign citizens have their roots in white supremacy. Melvin noted that all seven sovereign citizens his county is after are black and identify with the Moorish Nation, which Potok described as a black nationalist group "with very strong streak of sovereign beliefs."
"What was attractive, I think, to black groups I think was the idea of completely sovereignty: 'the white man can't mess with us,'" he said.
But Shaykh Ra Saadi El, chief minister with the Atlanta-based Moorish Science Temple of America, denies the men and women caught up with area's sovereign citizen movement have anything to with his temple.
"They're not Moorish Americans. Moorish Americans do not claim to be sovereign citizens," he said.

“There are a lot of bootleg groups out there. We call them bootleggers because what they have done is they’ve gone to the temple, got a nationality card, run out and adopted a eurocentric idea or conception, such as sovereignty, driving without a license, not paying taxes,” Chief Minister Ra Saadi El said.
Saadi El says anyone who follows DeVante or his book may be surprised when the law is not on their side.
“It’s fictitious. If you look at their stuff, they have 50,000 different entitlements of law, this quote, that quote, but not the law itself,” Saadi El said.
Steve Bierbrodt says the law is simple: Tennessee drivers have to have a Tennessee tag.
“It’s taking revenue away from the State of Tennessee. It is illegal, because they’ve got a vehicle that’s not registered with the state. It’s untraceable basically,” Bierbrodt said.
One group in Memphis says they don’t have to get state-licensed car plates.

FAST FACTS:
Moorish Nationals: Religious group or opportunists?
You may not have heard of the "Moorish Nationals," but police have. Members claim to follow Moorish science, rooted in a black religious group that's been around for nearly a century, and most of its members obey the law -- but not everyone.
In an exclusive corner of Bethesda, Md., there's a 35,000-square-foot mansion with 12 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms and trees planted by former President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. On the market for nearly $6 million, it's not exactly a steal, so imagine real estate agent Jordan Fainberg's surprise when he learned someone had moved into the vacant property.
"The owner calls me again and says, the neighbor called, there are people inside the house claiming they own the house. And I'm like, 'What?'" said Fainberg.
Lamont Butler, also known as Lamont Maurice El, claimed the mansion for himself. He even provided documents issued by the so-called "Moorish National Republic" to back it up.
(Memphis) It’s hard to track down the Moorish National Republic group in Memphis.
They exist according to a woman who is squatting in a $2 million dollar home on Shady Grove.
Most Moorish groups found online said they have nothing to do with the Memphis group.
“We are not a sovereignty group we are not a land grabbing thieving group,” said Shaykh Ra Saadi El with the Moorish Science Temple of America. “We have driver’s license. We pay taxes. We are not a sovereignty group,” he added.
We went to a home in south Memphis where the woman who is squatting at the east Memphis home told Memphis Police she lived when she was arrested in October.

Bogus court filings spotlight little-known sect
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — From New Jersey to California, police, courthouse officials and real estate agents are being confronted with a baffling new problem: bogus legal documents filed by people claiming to follow an obscure religion called Moorish Science. Their motives range from financial gain to simply causing a nuisance.
No one is more exasperated by the phenomenon than the leaders of the century-old Moorish Science Temple of America, who say the growing crop of "paperwork terrorists" has nothing to do with their faith or its teachings.
